make a pin: origami bag

I love to collect things. Boxes, shells, teacups, fabric, pins. Yes, my name is Christine and I’m a pin-aholic. I have pinned over 1600 cool projects, ideas, items and recipes since I discovered Pinterest. And how many have I made? Hmmmm.

That’s going to change! Each week I am going to make a pin and tell you how it turned out.

First up is this origami bag. We recently went on vacation to Maui and I found a store selling beautiful Hawaiian fabric. I bought nine yards and wish I’d picked up more but there just wasn’t room in the suitcase as Emily does not travel light; she likes to have a couple of outfits for every occasion so she can smear banana, strawberries and pasta sauce on them.

Last week I had a rare evening alone so I got cutting into my precious fabric. The most tedious part of the project was all the hemming but I used my serger and just did a quarter inch hem which made it a little quicker (I do love my serger).

Next time I make this bag I’d use a heavier weight fabric like a nice linen. It’s the sort of project you could make production-line style for Christmas gifts or just make a batch for tossing in your purse or car ready for when you go shopping.

I’m really happy with how it turned out and the fabric looks great. I still wish I’d bought more…
